Impact potential of hypersaline brines released into the marine environment for CCS reservoir pressure management

چکیده
• The potential impact from the disposal of hypersaline brines into ocean is assessed. Investigated as reservoir pressure management for Carbon Capture and Storage. Modelled using sophisticated high-resolution hydrodynamic models. We find that dispersion acts to dilute disposed brine rapidly. method has a significant influence on dispersal. environmental arising possible part Storage assessed models first time, investigating several industry guided scenarios. Although characteristics some in their undiluted form would have high potential, we hydrodynamically active region like North Sea rapidly, even worst case approach, such footprint (area exposed environmentally damaging salinity or temperature) small, measured 10?s meters depending release scenario site specific data water contaminants along with in-situ conditions currents mixing. dispersal, released nearer sea surface disperse more compared at seabed. Hence consideration height recommended further limit potential.

Metagenomic Insights into the Uncultured Diversity and Physiology of Microbes in Four Hypersaline Soda Lake Brines
Soda lakes are salt lakes with a naturally alkaline pH due to evaporative concentration of sodium carbonates in the absence of major divalent cations. Hypersaline soda brines harbor microbial communities with a high species- and strain-level archaeal diversity and a large proportion of still uncultured poly-extremophiles compared to neutral brines of similar salinities. We present the first "me...
متن کاملVapor Pressure Lowering in Brines and Implications for Formation of a High Temperature Reservoir
Introduction That a “high temperature reservoir” (HTR) underlies a “typical” vapor-dominated reservoir under certain circumstances is well known (Drenick, 1986; Pruess et al., 1987; Walters et al., 1988). However, formation and behavior of such a feature is poorly understood. Recent theories regarding the behavior of the HTR fall into one of two broad categories: transient and steady state. In ...
متن کاملRisk analysis for veterinary biologicals released into the environment.
All veterinary biologicals licensed in Canada must be shown to be pure, potent, safe and effective. A risk-based approach is used to evaluate the safety of all biologicals, whether produced by conventional methods or by molecular biological techniques. Traditionally, qualitative risk assessment methods have been used for this purpose. More recently, quantitative risk assessment has become avail...
